Category: Face ExerciseTarget: neckBody part: neckEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Core

The platysma lift is a bodyweight exercise targeting the platysma muscle along the front of the neck. It involves tensing and lifting the platysma bands to tone and firm the neck and lower face.

How to do it

  1. Sit upright with your spine straight and shoulders pulled back.
  2. Tilt your head back slightly and pull the corners of your mouth downward and outward.
  3. Tense the muscles along the front of your neck so the platysma bands become visible.
  4. Hold the tension for 5 seconds.
  5. Slowly release and return to a neutral position.
  6. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Form cues

Breathing: Inhale deeply before you begin, and exhale steadily while holding the tension.

Frequently asked questions

Should I feel pain in my neck?

No. You should feel muscle activation, not sharp pain. If you feel pain, stop immediately.

How often can I do this?

You can perform this daily as part of a gentle mobility routine.

What if I don't see the bands?

Everyone's anatomy is different. Focus on the sensation of the muscle tightening rather than how it looks.
