The wall hand touch forward lunges version 1 is a bodyweight lower body exercise that uses light wall contact for balance guidance during forward lunges. It targets the quadriceps while engaging the glutes, hamstrings, and calves as supporting muscles.

How to do it

  1. Stand facing the wall at arm's length with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Place your fingertips lightly on the wall at shoulder height for balance support.
  3. Step one foot forward into a lunge position, lowering your back knee toward the floor.
  4. Touch your fingertips to the wall as you descend into the lunge.
  5. Push through the front heel to return to standing, then repeat on the opposite side for the desired number of repetitions.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I use the wall for this lunge?

The wall provides extra stability, allowing you to focus on your form and balance while you build strength in your legs.

Should my back knee touch the floor?

Aim to lower your knee toward the floor, but it does not need to touch. Stop at a depth that feels comfortable for you.

I feel this in my front knee, is that normal?

Ensure your weight is centered over your front heel and your knee is not pushing forward past your toes. If you feel sharp pain, stop immediately.
