Wall Lunges

Category: Wall PilatesTarget: quadsBody part: upper legsEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Lunge

Wall lunges are a bodyweight lower body exercise that uses the wall for balance and postural support during the lunge movement. This variation allows greater focus on quad and glute activation by reducing the need for balance stabilization.

How to do it

  1. Stand facing the wall with your hands placed flat against it at shoulder height.
  2. Step one foot forward into a lunge stance, keeping the back leg extended.
  3. Lower your back knee toward the floor, maintaining an upright torso supported by the wall.
  4. Press through the front heel to return to the starting position.
  5. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, then switch legs.

Form cues

Breathing: Inhale as you lower your body, exhale as you push back up to the starting position.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to push hard against the wall?

No, the wall is for balance and stability only. Use the lightest touch possible to keep your legs doing the work.

Where should I feel this exercise?

You should feel the effort primarily in the front thigh (quads) and glutes.

Can I do these if I have bad knees?

If you have knee discomfort, keep the range of motion smaller or choose a gentler movement like wall sliding until you feel stronger.
