Y-T-W beginners is a bodyweight exercise targeting the upper back in a standing position. The beginner variation uses a slight forward hinge instead of lying prone, making it accessible while still activating the scapular stabilizers and rear deltoids.

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and hinge forward slightly at the hips.
  2. Extend your arms in a Y shape overhead, squeezing the shoulder blades together.
  3. Lower and extend your arms into a T position at shoulder height.
  4. Lower and bring your arms into a W position by bending the elbows.
  5. Return to the starting position and repeat the Y-T-W sequence for the desired repetitions.

Form cues
