Standing Y-T-W Stretch Series

Category: WorkoutsTarget: trapsBody part: backEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Stretch

Standing Y-T-W Stretch Series is a bodyweight stretching exercise targeting the trapezius and upper back muscles. Moving through the Y, T, and W arm positions improves shoulder mobility, posture, and scapular stability while stretching the shoulders and lats.

How to do it

  1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and hinge forward slightly at the hips.
  2. Raise both arms overhead in a Y position, squeezing the shoulder blades upward and inward.
  3. Move your arms out to the sides at shoulder height to form a T, squeezing the mid-back.
  4. Bend your elbows and pull them back into a W position, drawing the shoulder blades together.
  5. Flow slowly between each position for 20-30 seconds while maintaining controlled breathing.

Form cues

Breathing: Inhale as you transition between positions, and exhale deeply as you squeeze your shoulder blades together in each shape.
