Category: Wall PilatesTarget: hamstringsBody part: upper legsEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Stretch

The wall upper body bent hamstrings stretch is a bodyweight standing hamstring stretch using the wall for arm support while the torso is bent forward. The straight-leg forward hinge creates effective lengthening of the hamstrings and lower back.

How to do it

  1. Stand facing the wall and place both hands on it slightly below shoulder height.
  2. Walk your feet back and hinge at the hips until your torso is at approximately 45-90 degrees.
  3. Keep your legs straight and press your heels into the floor to feel the hamstring stretch.
  4. Hold the position for 20-30 seconds.
  5. Walk your feet back in and return to standing.

Form cues

Breathing: Maintain a steady, rhythmic breath throughout the hold; exhale as you deepen the hinge.
