The wall standing leg raise is a bodyweight lower body exercise using the wall for lateral balance support during a front leg raise. It strengthens the hip flexors and quads while engaging the core for stabilization throughout the movement.

How to do it

  1. Stand with your side to the wall and place one hand on it for balance.
  2. Stand tall and engage your core.
  3. Lift the outer leg straight up in front of you as high as comfortable.
  4. Slowly lower the leg back to the floor with control.
  5. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, then turn and switch sides.

Form cues

Breathing: Exhale as you lift your leg upward, and inhale as you slowly lower it back down.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I feel this exercise?

You should feel it in the front of your hip and the top of your thigh.

Do I need to lift my leg very high?

No, focus on quality and control rather than height. Lift only as high as you can while keeping your torso upright.

Can I do this without a wall?

Yes, but using the wall helps you maintain balance so you can focus on the movement pattern first.
