Category: Wall PilatesTarget: hamstringsBody part: upper legsEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Stretch

The wall sit on one leg forward fold stretch is a bodyweight hamstring and lower back flexibility exercise. One foot rests against the wall while the opposite leg is extended and the torso folds forward, creating a focused unilateral hamstring stretch.

How to do it

  1. Sit on the floor with one leg extended straight out and the opposite foot flat against the wall.
  2. Sit tall and engage your core, then hinge forward from the hips toward the extended leg.
  3. Reach your hands toward your foot and hold the forward fold at maximum comfortable depth.
  4. Keep the extended leg straight and foot flexed throughout the stretch.
  5. Hold for 20-30 seconds, then switch legs and repeat.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I feel this stretch?

You should feel a gentle pull along the back of your extended leg. You might also feel some release in your lower back.

What if I can't reach my foot?

That is perfectly fine. Reach toward your shin or ankle instead; the goal is to feel a comfortable stretch, not to touch your toes.

How often should I do this?

You can perform this stretch daily, especially after a workout or as part of a dedicated mobility routine.
