Headstand Flex (Sirsasana)

Category: YogaTarget: deltsBody part: shouldersEquipment: body weightLevel: advancedMovement: Balance

Headstand flex is an advanced inverted yoga posture targeting the deltoids and requiring full-body engagement. It involves balancing on the crown of the head and forearms with legs extended vertically, building shoulder endurance, core strength, and spatial awareness.

How to do it

  1. Kneel on the mat and interlace your fingers, placing your forearms on the floor to form a triangular base with your hands.
  2. Place the crown of your head on the mat, cradled by your interlaced hands.
  3. Walk your feet in toward your head, lifting your hips until they stack over your shoulders.
  4. Engage your core and slowly bring one knee, then the other, toward your chest before extending both legs fully overhead.
  5. Hold the inverted position for 20-60 seconds with legs actively extended, then lower with control and rest in child's pose.

Form cues

Breathing: Maintain steady, rhythmic breaths throughout the hold; avoid holding your breath as it increases internal pressure.
