Wall Standing Calf Raise Hold

Category: Wall PilatesTarget: calvesBody part: lower legsEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Gait

The wall standing calf raise hold is a bodyweight exercise targeting the calves through a sustained raised-heel position. The wall provides light balance support, allowing full focus on calf contraction and ankle stability at the peak of the movement.

How to do it

  1. Stand facing the wall and place both hands lightly against it at shoulder height.
  2. Position your feet hip-width apart with toes pointing forward.
  3. Rise up onto the balls of your feet, lifting your heels as high as possible.
  4. Hold the raised position for a moment, squeezing the calves at the top.
  5. Slowly lower your heels back to the floor and repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Form cues

Breathing: Exhale as you rise onto your toes and inhale as you slowly lower your heels.

Frequently asked questions

Should I feel this in my shins?

You might feel some fatigue in the front of your shins, but the primary burn should be in the back of your lower legs.

How much should I lean on the wall?

Use the wall only for light balance support. The goal is to have your legs carry your full body weight.

Can I do this every day?

Yes, calf training is generally safe for daily practice as they are endurance-focused muscles, but listen to your body if you feel soreness.
