Tabletop Start - Thoracic Bridge

Category: WorkoutsTarget: latsBody part: backEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Stretch

Tabletop start thoracic bridge is a bodyweight exercise targeting the lats and thoracic spine, with secondary engagement of the lower back, shoulders, and chest. It involves lifting the hips into a reverse tabletop to open the chest and extend the spine, serving as a foundational movement for deeper backbend progressions.

How to do it

  1. Sit on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat, and place your hands behind you with fingers pointing toward your body.
  2. Press through your hands and feet to lift your hips until your body forms a flat tabletop position, parallel to the floor.
  3. Squeeze your glutes, drop your head back slightly, and open your chest upward.
  4. Hold the tabletop position for 2-3 seconds, then slowly lower your hips back to the floor.
  5. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Form cues

Breathing: Inhale as you lower to the floor, and exhale steadily as you press up into the tabletop position.
