Rocking Pilate is a bodyweight exercise targeting the lower back and glutes. Performed prone while holding the ankles, it involves a rocking motion along the front of the body, strengthening the spinal extensors and improving spinal flexibility and body awareness.

How to do it

  1. Lie face down on the mat with your knees bent and feet raised toward your glutes.
  2. Reach back and grasp your ankles with both hands.
  3. Engage your core and lift your chest and thighs off the mat simultaneously.
  4. Rock forward onto your chest, then rock back onto your thighs in a controlled arc.
  5. Continue rocking back and forth for the desired number of repetitions.

Form cues

Breathing: Inhale as you prepare to lift, and exhale rhythmically as you rock back and forth.
