Category: YogaTarget: absBody part: waistEquipment: body weightLevel: intermediateMovement: Rotation

Marichyasana is a seated spinal twist yoga posture that targets the abdominal muscles and obliques while stretching the lower back and hamstrings. It involves twisting the torso with one knee bent, encouraging thoracic rotation and core activation.

How to do it

  1. Sit on the floor with both legs extended in front of you.
  2. Bend your right knee and place your right foot flat on the floor close to your right hip.
  3. Inhale and lengthen your spine, then exhale and twist your torso to the right.
  4. Bring your left elbow to the outside of your right knee and place your right hand on the floor behind you.
  5. Hold the twist for 20-30 seconds, then release and repeat on the other side.

Form cues
