Hug-a-tree is a Pilates bodyweight exercise targeting the pectoral muscles. It involves a wide arc of the arms from an outstretched position to a hugging position in front of the chest, building chest strength and shoulder stability without equipment.

How to do it

  1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and arms extended out to the sides at shoulder height, palms facing forward.
  2. Engage your core and keep a slight bend in your elbows.
  3. Slowly arc your arms forward and toward each other as if wrapping around a large tree.
  4. Pause when your hands are about to meet in front of your chest.
  5. Slowly return your arms to the starting position.
  6. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
