Wall Plank Hold

Category: Wall PilatesTarget: absBody part: waistEquipment: body weightLevel: intermediateMovement: Core

The wall plank hold is a bodyweight core exercise where the feet are elevated against the wall in a standard plank position. The wall provides stability and elevation, increasing the demand on the abdominal muscles, shoulders, and lower back.

How to do it

  1. Place your hands flat on the floor and walk your feet up the wall until your body is parallel to the floor.
  2. Align your wrists directly under your shoulders and engage your core.
  3. Maintain a straight line from head to heels with your feet pressed firmly against the wall.
  4. Hold the position for the desired duration without allowing your hips to sag or rise.
  5. Walk your feet back down the wall to return to the starting position.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I feel this exercise?

You should feel it primarily in your abdominal muscles. If you feel it in your lower back, your hips are likely sagging.

How high up the wall should my feet go?

Start at a height where you can maintain a straight line. As you get stronger, you can gradually move your feet higher.

Can I do this if I have wrist pain?

If your wrists are uncomfortable, try the elbow plank version instead to distribute the pressure across your forearms.
