Wall Glute Bridge

Category: Wall PilatesTarget: glutesBody part: upper legsEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Hinge

The wall glute bridge is a bodyweight exercise that targets the glutes and hamstrings. Using a wall to position the feet at a fixed height, this variation increases the range of hip extension and provides a stable base for controlled glute contraction.

How to do it

  1. Lie on your back and place your feet flat against the wall with knees bent at approximately 90 degrees.
  2. Place your arms flat on the floor at your sides for stability.
  3. Engage your core and drive your hips upward by pressing through your feet against the wall.
  4. Squeeze your glutes at the top and hold briefly.
  5. Slowly lower your hips back to the floor and repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Form cues

Breathing: Exhale as you lift your hips, inhale as you slowly lower them back down.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I feel this in my lower back instead of my glutes?

You may be over-arching your spine. Focus on tucking your pelvis slightly and bracing your core before you lift.

How high should I lift my hips?

Lift until your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees. Avoid pushing past that point.

Can I do this if I don't have a wall?

Yes, you can perform a standard glute bridge on the floor; the wall just provides extra stability and a fixed angle.
