Starfish Crunch

Category: WorkoutsTarget: absBody part: waistEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Core

The starfish crunch is a bodyweight exercise targeting the abdominal muscles through a diagonal cross-body crunch from an X-shaped lying position. The movement develops full abdominal and oblique engagement with a wide range of motion.

How to do it

  1. Lie flat on your back with your arms and legs extended outward in an X shape.
  2. Simultaneously lift your right arm and left leg, crunching your torso to bring them toward each other.
  3. Touch or reach toward your foot at the top of the movement.
  4. Lower back to the starting X position.
  5. Repeat on the opposite side, lifting your left arm and right leg.
  6. Continue alternating for the desired number of repetitions.

Form cues

Breathing: Exhale as you crunch upward and reach toward your foot, and inhale as you lower back down to the starting X position.
