Spine Twist (Seated)

Category: Home PilatesTarget: obliquesBody part: waistEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Rotation

The seated spine twist is a Pilates bodyweight exercise targeting the obliques and abdominal muscles. It involves rotating the torso from a seated position with arms outstretched, developing spinal mobility, waist definition, and rotational core strength.

How to do it

  1. Sit tall on the mat with your legs extended and feet flexed, slightly wider than hip-width.
  2. Extend your arms out to the sides at shoulder height.
  3. Inhale to lengthen your spine, then exhale and rotate your torso to the right.
  4. Pulse twice to the right, deepening the rotation without collapsing the spine.
  5. Return to center and repeat on the left side.
  6. Continue alternating for the desired number of repetitions.

Form cues

Breathing: Inhale to sit tall and prepare, exhale deeply as you rotate and pulse to engage the core.
