Forward Lunges Stretch

Category: WorkoutsTarget: hip flexorsBody part: upper legsEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Lunge

The forward lunge stretch is a bodyweight hip flexor and quad stretch performed in a deep lunge position. Pressing the hips forward and allowing the back knee to drop elongates the hip flexor and quad of the rear leg, making it an effective mobility drill.

How to do it

  1. Stand upright and step one foot forward into a wide lunge.
  2. Lower your hips toward the floor and allow the back knee to lower close to the ground.
  3. Press the front hip forward slightly to deepen the stretch in the back hip flexor.
  4. Hold the position for 20–30 seconds.
  5. Return to standing and repeat on the other side.

Form cues

Breathing: Inhale deeply as you settle into the lunge, and exhale slowly to help your muscles relax during the hold.
