Bird Dog Advanced (Both Hands Raise)

Category: WorkoutsTarget: lower backBody part: backEquipment: body weightLevel: intermediateMovement: Core

The bird dog advanced (both hands raise) is a bodyweight exercise targeting the lower back and core stabilizers. By simultaneously extending opposite limbs from the quadruped position, this advanced variation increases the balance and stability demand compared to the standard bird dog, developing spinal control and full-body coordination.

How to do it

  1. Start on all fours with your hands directly under your shoulders and knees under your hips.
  2. Brace your core and simultaneously extend both your right arm forward and left leg back.
  3. Hold the extended position briefly, keeping your hips level and back flat.
  4. Return to the starting position and repeat on the opposite side, extending your left arm and right leg.
  5. Continue alternating for the desired number of repetitions, maintaining a neutral spine throughout.

Form cues

Breathing: Inhale to prepare in the starting position, and exhale steadily as you extend your limbs.
