Barbell Static Lunges

Category: WorkoutsTarget: quadsBody part: upper legsEquipment: barbellLevel: intermediateMovement: Lunge

Barbell static lunges are a stationary lunge variation performed with a barbell across the back. Fixing the feet in a split stance isolates each leg independently, increasing focus on quad and glute strength without the balance demand of alternating lunges.

How to do it

  1. Stand with a barbell resting across your upper back and step one foot forward into a split stance.
  2. Keep your torso upright and your core braced throughout the movement.
  3. Lower your back knee straight down toward the ground without touching it.
  4. Push through your front heel to return to the starting position.
  5. Complete all desired repetitions on one leg before switching to the other.

Form cues

Breathing: Inhale as you lower down in a controlled manner, and exhale as you press back up to the starting position.
