Standing Neck and Shoulder Stretch

Category: WorkoutsTarget: neckBody part: neckEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Stretch

The standing neck and shoulder stretch is a bodyweight exercise targeting the lateral cervical muscles and upper trapezius. By tilting the head and reaching the same arm downward, the stretch is intensified along the side of the neck and across the shoulder.

How to do it

  1. Stand upright with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Tilt your head to one side, dropping your ear toward your shoulder.
  3. Reach the same-side hand down toward the floor to increase the lateral stretch.
  4. Hold for 20–30 seconds.
  5. Return to center and repeat on the other side.

Form cues

Breathing: Inhale deeply as you set up, and exhale slowly to let your neck and shoulder relax into the stretch.
