Category: WorkoutsTarget: latsBody part: backEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Hinge

Prayer Forward Fold is a bodyweight stretching exercise targeting the lats and lower back. Folding forward with hands in prayer position gently lengthens the posterior chain and opens the upper back.

How to do it

  1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and bring your palms together in a prayer position in front of your chest.
  2. Hinge forward at the hips, keeping your back flat as you lower your torso toward the ground.
  3. Allow your arms to extend forward or rest in front of you as you deepen the stretch.
  4. Hold for 20-30 seconds, breathing deeply.
  5. Slowly rise back to standing and repeat as desired.

Form cues

Breathing: Inhale deeply as you stand tall, and exhale slowly as you hinge forward into the stretch.
