Seated Iron Cross Stretch

Category: WorkoutsTarget: lower backBody part: backEquipment: body weightLevel: beginnerMovement: Rotation

The seated iron cross stretch is a bodyweight exercise targeting the lower back through spinal rotation. Performed seated with one knee bent and crossed over, it uses the elbow as a lever to deepen the twist, releasing tension in the lower back, obliques, and glutes.

How to do it

  1. Sit upright on the floor with your legs extended straight out in front of you.
  2. Bend your right knee and cross your right foot over your left leg, placing it flat on the floor outside your left knee.
  3. Place your left elbow on the outside of your right knee and gently press to rotate your torso to the right.
  4. Extend your right arm behind you for support and look over your right shoulder.
  5. Hold the stretch for 20-30 seconds, then slowly release and repeat on the opposite side.

Form cues

Breathing: Inhale deeply to sit tall, then exhale slowly as you gently twist into the stretch.
