Incline Bench Press (Barbell)

Category: WorkoutsTarget: pectoralsBody part: chestEquipment: barbellLevel: intermediate

The incline barbell bench press is a compound chest exercise that places greater emphasis on the upper pectorals and anterior deltoids compared to a flat bench press. The incline angle shifts the pressing load upward, developing upper chest thickness and strength.

How to do it

  1. Set an incline bench to 30–45 degrees and rack a barbell at the appropriate height.
  2. Lie back on the bench and grip the bar slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  3. Unrack the bar and hold it above your upper chest with arms fully extended.
  4. Lower the bar slowly to your upper chest, keeping your elbows at a 45-degree angle.
  5. Press the bar back up to the starting position and repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Muscles worked

Primary: pectorals. Secondary: triceps, delts, traps.
