Barbell Skull Crusher

Category: WorkoutsTarget: tricepsBody part: upper armsEquipment: barbellLevel: intermediate

The barbell skull crusher is a triceps isolation exercise performed lying on a bench. Lowering the barbell toward the forehead while keeping the upper arms fixed places maximum tension on all three heads of the triceps brachii, making it highly effective for building arm size.

How to do it

  1. Lie flat on a bench holding a barbell with an overhand grip, arms extended straight above your chest.
  2. Keep your upper arms perpendicular to the floor and stationary throughout the movement.
  3. Slowly bend your elbows to lower the barbell toward your forehead or just above it.
  4. Pause just before the bar reaches your head, then extend your arms back to the starting position.
  5. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Muscles worked

Primary: triceps. Secondary: shoulders, forearms.
